Won three-runner novice chase by 17l at Newbury (2m, soft; first-time blinkers) in February but that form is tricky to evaluate, and he was pulled up in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham in March; still needs to prove he can handle his current handicap mark and that he's fully effective on the forecast good ground.
Comment
Form of wide-margin novice win in February is tricky to evaluate; pulled up since
Stable Tour
"I was delighted with his reappearance. He jumped very well and travelled well too, but he just made a mistake two out and finished nicely without troubling the leaders. That was a positive run for him mentally as well as physically. I'll probably keep him over hurdles next time out. 07-11-25"
Quotes
"We slipped Personal Ambition into the Grand Annual this morning, so we'll definitely think about that now. He got his own way in front and jumped well, and that's the important thing because he can miss a fence or two, but he was very good. He's always had that ability. He beat Jango Baie in a Grade 2 before, but it's just all about putting everything together in one go. - Tom David, trainer's assistant.I was delighted over the first two. I could see [Harry] Cobden dropped off me a bit and I just wanted to press a little bit down the back and put him under pressure. Personal Ambition is a very good jumper, he's just a bit sloppy at one or two and I had to give him a reminder [in the back straight] but credit to him up the straight, he answered every question I gave him. He's definitely got the engine [to be worth his place in a two-mile handicap at the festival] but it's just his mental state and if that would hold up in the big fields. The blinkers definitely got a bit more out of him today and hopefully that'll do his confidence the world of good and he can go on to bigger and better things - Ben Jones, jockey, speaking to Sky Sports Racing."
2026-02-17 - Newbury"That was brilliant. Personal Ambition stuck at it really well, he was good and tough. He's very talented but he'll be a nicer chaser, he doesn't have much respect for hurdles. He'll be a good horse when he gets fences - Kielan Woods, jockey."
2024-03-02 - Kelso"I liked Personal Ambition when I saw him in Ireland. He needed a wind operation so we gave him one when he came over in the summer. He does what he needs to do at home. He is not flash in the mornings but he has got a big engine. We will not get too excited too quickly. The horse that won his point-to-point they paid a lot of money for. The amount of times I've rattled the cross bar over the last two weeks has been frustrating, but I'm delighted to see this one go in - Ben Pauling, trainer."

Made all in three-runner mares' chase at Wincanton (1m7f, good) last month and is now 4-8 over fences; faces tougher task from 3lb out of the weights here but is evidently in good nick, and new jockey Isabelle Ryder claims 5lb.

Stable Tour
"She lost her way a bit last season in the mud, but she has more to give off her handicap mark on decent ground and will jump a fence in time. 06-11-24"
"She started in those new junior hurdle races last season and won twice, while also finishing fourth at Listed level and in a Cheltenham Grade 3. I think she's unexposed because it might be hard for the handicapper to get a grip on those races. She's matured and strengthened, and the Grade 2 EBF mares' race at Newbury next spring could be a target for her. 28-09-23"
Quotes
"It's not going to work [the Junior National Hunt Development Programme]. They've got the penalty structure wrong with those [horses], and Obsessedwithyou ended up in no-man's land for two years. But it's nice to see her back on track - Jamie Snowden, trainer."

Safely held at last month's Aintree festival but back in calmer waters here and now back on same mark as for win at Haydock (2m4f, good to soft) in December; will be fine over this trip; might be the answer.
Comment
Won off this mark in December and will find this race easier than Aintree last month
Stable Tour
"He won at Doncaster last November and was full of running at Wetherby when he had the most horrendous fall. In Carlisle's Go North final, he probably would have won if he hadn't missed the last. That's just him - he's got that in him. He wants two-mile handicaps round the big tracks. I've always thought there's a decent chase in him when it all clicks. 30-10-25"
"He is a lovely horse who made a very pleasing start to his career when a close third in a Hereford bumper last spring. This season we gave him his first run over hurdles at Bangor in November where he was a nice seven-length winner. Unfortunately, he has had a little setback since, but he is back in work again and we are trying to get him back. he is a big horse who can be quite hard on himself, and he takes a bit of managing. We will stick to hurdles for now but next season he could evolve into a decent northern handicapper on soft ground. 09-02-23"

Won valuable handicaps on good to soft ground at Cheltenham (2m) and Ascot (2m1f) last autumn; safely held in Grand Annual at Cheltenham Festival in March and not seen to best effect on heavy ground at Ayr last month but comes here on a workable mark and must be considered.
Comment
Not seen to best effect on heavy ground last month; bagged two big prizes last autumn
Stable Tour
"He won two good handicaps in the autumn and ran well enough in the Game Spirit on ground that he wouldn't have liked, but the Champion Chase looks too big an ask and we may well claim off him in the Grand Annual instead. 17-02-26"
Quotes
"At nine years old Calico probably shouldn't be putting up a career best, but he just has. He is a great horse to train for this race, and we made sure we had him right for this. The ground was perfect for him today and it's a big race in his season because he finds it harder to win once the ground softens. Today was important - I think only think only the Grand Annual is worth more - Dan Skelton, trainer."
2025-10-24 - Cheltenham"Calico just got chinned at The November Meeting last year when Triple Trade beat him and I said to John [Reilly] his owner that we might not win for the rest of the year now because I knew how much he'd put in. It has literally taken him a season to get over that run, not just because of that run but also because the handicapper put him up and the opposition got stronger. It was important today that he was fresh and it was nice ground on a track he is good at. Harry gave him a beautiful ride and it all came together. I think we will have to be sparing with him as he is very good fresh and on decent ground. I think we will probably look at the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton over Christmas for him now, as that is now a limited handicap - Dan Skelton, trainer."
2024-10-25 - Cheltenham"We came very close up the run-in and I was unable to use my stick as I wanted to and Calico responded really well just for hands and heels. I was surprised he battled back like he did and I felt like he was crying out for a lead turning away from the stands. He sees this trip out really well, but has that speed early to get him to the front. Bridget Andrews, jockey"
2023-03-04 - Doncaster"Calico was a nice horse in Germany and was entitled to win like he did. He was just denied in a strong race at Kempton and has a nice turn of foot - Harry Skelton, jockey."

Well below best during five-race campaign last season and absent since pulled up on soft ground in February; had wind surgery the following month, though, and ought to be better suited by the forecast quicker conditions here; too well handicapped to rule out; swaps visor for refitted blinkers.

Stable Tour
"He's been a star for us. He looked a bit ring-rusty at Wetherby and we might go back over hurdles and then aim him at nice handicap chases in the spring. He gets two and a half miles and needs it to be really strongly run when he goes over two. 20-11-25"
"I don't know whether he's got a bit old and clever now, but he won't go on soft ground at all. We're going to give him a few weeks off and then look to run him in some nice hurdle races over the summer. We might take him to France to run in hurdles over there. He's well handicapped if we can get him back. 13-03-26"
Quotes
"I have massive admiration for Homme Public. He's an absolute gent to do anything with. He's run in plenty of big races and is maybe just shy of being a really good horse, but what he loses in that little bit of ability for the top end he makes up for with his attitude. He's really there when you need him and is a pleasure to ride - Henry Brooke, jockey, speaking to Sky Sports Racing."
2024-12-13 - Doncaster"We entered thinking we wouldn't run. Then Homme Public was in amongst it and with few runners we thought we'd run. It's disappointing, you'd expect Nicky [Henderson] or [Paul] Nicholls to have a runner in it. I don't think he liked the ground but he won well - Oliver Greenall, co-trainer."
2023-11-17 - Cheltenham"It's a big ask for a horse, even though he's been jumping very well at home, to run straight into a handicap with horses who have had plenty of goes over fences. But the lads know what Homme Public's schooled like at home and they'd only do it if they were confident. And I soon realised they weren't wrong and he jumped well. He's got Swinton Hurdle form, he's a grand little sort - Henry Brooke, jockey."
2023-10-18 - Wetherby"We always thought Homme Public had a lot of talent. He used to be keen and flighty but he's started to relax and grow up - Oliver Greenall, joint-trainer."
2022-11-12 - Wetherby"Homme Public probably needed it first time at Catterick and inexperience got him beaten. Today he was more settled and a bit fitter and he did it nicely in the end. I don't know about the Triumph Hurdle, he's done it nicely enough today but what he's beaten is hard to say. It's a possibility but I don't know if he's hardened enough - Oliver Greenall, trainer."

Always comes with risk, given his jumping often lacks fluency and that he apparently needs to be held up in rear, but he's effectively 7lb lower than when keeping on well for second in valuable Ascot handicap (2m1f, good) in November and will be suited by this return to forecast good ground; blinkered for last two runs; cheekpieces tried today.
Comment
Comes with risk but he's well handicapped and will be suited by a return to good ground
Stable Tour
"I've always absolutely loved this horse. We wanted to run in the Red Rum at Aintree but he had a lameness issue and he's been late in so won't start until the spring. We hope we can get him in handicaps at the big spring festivals, possibly the Grand Annual. 14-11-24"
"We finally got to grips with him last season. He took well to chasing and we made the most of his mark, winning three before he was beaten at Bangor, where he was in a better race and we found out stamina isn't his forte. He's more of a two-miler and we could look to target a nice £28,000 race at Aintree on November 11. 12-10-23"
Quotes
"We always liked Gabriel's Getaway early on but he was a bit of a hothead. He took a bit of time to mature but he won three out of three over fences then he got a bump at Bangor and ran too free and the ground was too soft for him at Ludlow last time. He was in at the deep end today but he's done it well. They cut each other's throats and he saw it out well - Ben Godfrey, jockey."

"An incredible horse who cost £800 and has won more than £100,000. We've been waiting for the ground with him and he's in really good form. His last run was at Wetherby in October when he won in a course record time. Sean [Bowen] just loves his attitude and while he's got that enthusiasm, he'll keep going. He likes sharp tracks - quick ground round Stratford suits him - and we'll go where we get those conditions. 08-04-26"
