Acts on good to firm and heavy; on a competitive mark on last year's best efforts but he's without a win since September 2022 and finished merely in mid-division on reappearance in the Lincoln here in March (unseated rider on the way to post); others are more persuasive.

Comment

On competitive mark but his last win was in 2022 and others are preferred

Stable Tour

"The Hampton Court Stakes is where we could try him, but I need to speak to the owners before confirming it. I'd love to see him over a mile and a quarter ? we've got to bite the bullet and try it one day, so why not here? He finished fourth in the 2,000 Guineas and was fifth in the Irish Guineas, although he finished closer to the winner than at Newmarket. Both times he hit the line really well and should get the extra distance on the way he races. 13-06-23"

"He won twice last year including the Goffs Million, where he earned his owners ¤611,000. He has run well without success this season, notably when a good fourth to Chaldean in the 2,000 Guineas. His subsequent effort at the Curragh in the Irish Guineas could have seen him finish much closer if things had gone his way. I know he's better than that fifth behind Paddington and his subsequent ninth in the St James's Palace Stakes on Tuesday. 21-06-23"

Quotes

"We were worried about the draw, worried about the ground but he's just done it. Me and my wife are elated. I thought Galleron was unlucky at Doncaster. I was hoping for a place and he came fourth, just was half a length behind the third - Gary Robinson, owner."

Front-runner who performed with great credit on all five starts last season, including a win here (6.5f) in September and a narrow defeat in the Ayr Gold Cup (6f); returned after wind surgery with a low-key effort at York last month but he may have need that run and has claims if he can get back near best; acts on most ground and four of his six wins have been at 7f.

Comment

May have needed his reappearance run and has claims on his best form last season

Stable Tour

"He's won three of his last four and I wouldn't say I've been surprised by him. He's been in great form. He didn't look as if he'd stopped improving last time when he won at Haydock and he got a really nice positive ride from Ryan Sexton, who grabbed the race by the scruff of the neck and was always in control. He loves a turning 7f, but he's the sort you might put in the Ayr Gold Cup and think about the Silver Cup with him because they'll go quick - he's not a slow horse at all and you can see him coming home strongly. The only thing about him is that he wouldn't want the ground too soft. He's enjoying the dry summer when one or two others aren't. 23-07-25"

Quotes

"I thought we might just get our nose in front - it was a head-bob. I'm delighted with Desert Falcon as he's run a cracker. That trip is all right for him on that type of ground and he's shown that he's versatile and can compete in these big sprint handicaps - Rowan Scott, jockey."

Useful juvenile who ended his 3yo campaign with a win in a Newcastle handicap (7f, AW) in October; been gelded and left Andrew Balding for 150,000gns since; remains feasibly treated off only 3lb higher than last time and he needs a close look on return for new yard.

Comment

Changed hands for 150,000gns after his AW win in October; needs close look on stable debut

Quotes

"I'm relieved Spell Master didn't come second like the others! He's a grand horse who's improving with every run and should keep progressing. Kamekos' are very similar and seem to thrive on their racing and try very hard - Andrew Balding, trainer."

Kept fairly busy in the last 12 months and he supplemented a 6f Windsor win (good) in September by scoring over 7f at Yarmouth (good to soft) in October and at Chelmsford (AW) in December; has held his form with some solid efforts this spring and he could make a serious impact if this sets up for his closing style.

Comment

Reliable type who has been running well this spring and has claims if gets some luck

Stable Tour

"He's always been a laid-back character and I'm really pleased with how he's done over the winter. He had nowhere to go on his comeback at Kempton and hopefully he can move forward from that run and have better luck next time. He wouldn't want it too soft, is versatile at six or seven furlongs and I hope he can keep progressing. 02-05-23"

"He has only won the once but he has run consistently well in defeat apart from last time at Newmarket where he got a bit behind the pace and that cost him any chance. His penultimate run behind Quinault at York reads well and I'm looking at going back to the July course if conditions are in his favour and it dries out as he is not far off winning again. He may even run in the Stewards' Cup on Saturday. 02-08-23"

Won novice events at Kempton (7f, AW) and over C&D (good) for Roger Varian last summer but has mixed record in handicaps since; made a promising stable debut when fifth at Haydock in April but he was a long way below that form in another Class 2 event at Ascot last month; now drops back in grade but regular hood is removed and he comes with risks attached.

His last two wins have been over C&D and latest was in this race last year; flopped when favourite at this track last month but he finished runner-up in a big field here (6f, good to soft) on his reappearance in March; looks interesting if he can recapture that form and it would be a bonus if rain arrives.

Comment

Flopped over 6f here last month but he won this race off 2lb lower last year; dangerous

Stable Tour

"A good horse last year, he'll start off in the Victoria Cup. I thought he wanted only fast ground and then he ran a stormer on soft when second at Ascot in September. He's got plenty of ability and a lot of speed, and straight tracks suit him well. 14-04-25"

"He's frustrating because he's got so much ability. He was second in last year's Buckingham Palace behind Never So Brave, so he obviously bumped into a very good one that day. He can handle decent ground but he needs 7f. If it's soft, he's capable at six. Sometimes when he's drawn on the wing, he throws away his race by hanging left and right. On his day when things do work out well for him, he's very talented. 27-05-26"

Quotes

"Akkadian Thunder ran a blinder. David [O'Meara, trainer] was keen to have him nice and relaxed early. He said, 'Ride him to have him coming home'. I followed Oisin [Murphy] everywhere and we had a great run through. When we got in the clear, I thought he might pick up and get to Oisin, but fairness to the winner who picked up and won well. Our horse has run a great race - Billy Lee, jockey."

Versatile sort who has won four times at up to 1m but his last success was in August 2024; reappeared with a close third off 2lb higher at Redcar (1m, good to firm) in April but he's not easy to predict and was tailed off at Thirsk three weeks ago; yard also runs Akkadian Thunder.

Stable Tour

"He's come back in good shape and we started him off over seven furlongs at Musselburgh on Sunday to get a bit of the gas out of him. He won at Ascot at the Shergar Cup meeting and the Victoria Cup could be for him on his second start. The stiff seven at Ascot or sharp mile at York will be among his options. 14-04-25"

Dual turf winner (7f, good) who won on AW at Newcastle in December, but he's not easy to predict and was beaten 11l when sixth at Lingfield (7.6f, good to firm) last month; has bit to prove again after that and he's still 6lb higher than for his last win; regular hood is removed.

Comment

Triple 7f winner but he's not easy to predict and looks weighted near best off this mark

Quotes

"Apotheosis is a horse I've always thought has a lot of ability but the struggle with him is just getting him to relax, and I think today is the best he's relaxed since his debut. He did it all the right way round, I thought we went a nice gallop and I was able to tag onto the back of the Balding horse [Storm Star], who was able to take me into the race. He's definitely on the improve and he's off to Dubai now, and I'm sure he'll have a successful stint out there - Harry Davies, jockey, speaking to Sky Sports Racing."

Turf maiden winner who won two AW handicaps last autumn; his last success was off 7lb lower but he reappeared with a good third at Newmarket (7f, good) last month and he's still lightly raced on turf; in the mix.

Comment

Reappeared with a good third at Newmarket and he's still lightly raced on turf; in the mix

Stable Tour

"He was fourth the other day at York behind Mums Tipple. He was also second in one of those valuable Sunday races at Southwell this year. He got trouble in running at York and he's not quite put it all together yet, but he could progress when he does. He's rated in the high 70s and if he puts it together on the track he'll be a fair bit better than his mark. 11-06-25"

Quotes

"It was testing out there, you need to give your horse a chance to get there in the last two [furlongs] and they weren't going fast over the line. Arctic Dawn was the yardstick and I felt they needed to step up to beat him. He was a worthy favourite and he obliged - David Egan, jockey, speaking to Sky Sports Racing."
