Has a particular fondness for Killarney and won for the fifth time there three weeks ago, where he beat What Path by 1.5l over a slightly shorter trip; was just doing enough, so headgear back on; likes good ground.
Comment
Was just doing enough when he beat What Path at Killarney, headgear back on
Quotes
"Solitary Man gave us a pleasant surprise here, he handled the 2m1f better than we thought. His jumping was a big help. He's a hard horse to place but there is a better programme for him after Galway - Enda Bolger, trainer."
2024-07-19 - Killarney"Solitary Man had not been away with the weather so I put a few lads off him. But it worked out. His jumping has always been great, I was just worried about fitness. He might end up at Galway - Enda Bolger, trainer."
2024-05-12 - Killarney"Solitary Man had a good run at Ballinrobe last time and this was the plan after that. I'm really looking forward to him next year when he goes chasing - Enda Bolger, trainer."

Useful 3m hurdler for Willie Mullins before fruitless spell over fences in Britain; seems to have been revitalised by point-to-points, winning three in the spring; in contention when slipping up in banks race at Punchestown; chased home Solitary Man at Killarney and 3lb better off here.

"He ran well at Cork the other day on ground that wouldn't have been suitable. He'll be a better horse on better ground than that. 13-11-23"
Quotes
"What Path is a big horse for around here. He loved the trip and loved the ground. He will be better when he gets a fence in front of him - Paul Townend, rider"
2023-06-04 - Kilbeggan"What Path was lairy in front. He was entitled to win and was fresh today, he probably won snug enough at the death. He'll jump a fence - Paul Townend, rider."

All three hunter chase wins have come at Downpatrick, including a repeat of last year's victory in 3m5f contest just 10 days ago; trainer admits he's a different horse at that track, which renders him opposable here.

Four wins over hurdles (rated 130), one of them here; maiden after 10 chase starts and has had jumping issues, but was second off 120 at Roscommon last summer; only beaten 7l in Champion Hunters Chase at Punchestown where he was a huge price.

"The ground was just far too soft for him at Wetherby and, with the benefit of hindsight, I probably shouldn't have run him. I've an eye on the big three mile handicap hurdle at Navan worth €100,000 next month if the ground isn't too soft. We're really looking forward to sending him over fences next season. 27-11-23"
"I thought he was impressive in winning his bumper at Fairyhouse. He was bought to be sold and we brought him to the sales after Fairyhouse but we weren't getting enough for him so we brought him home. In hindsight he should never have run over hurdles at Clonmel last month as it was a bit soon after being over at the sales. He didn't jump great that day but he jumps well at home and the plan is to get a run or two into him before the auction series final at Punchestown in the spring. 08-12-21"
Quotes
"Ambitious Fellow lost his form and there was an issue with him after he ran at Limerick last year, but he looks back to himself now. I was worried about the ground but it worked out great - Peter Fahey, trainer."
2023-08-05 - Galway"Ambitious Fellow has great form and he was unlucky [when brought down] at the Galway festival, with the rain also coming. He's a novice for this season in the UK because of the timing of his Punchestown win. He has plenty of experience and the trip of two miles and five furlongs at Cheltenham in November would suit him. Once the ground goes soft he'll get a break - Peter Fahey, trainer"
2022-09-24 - Listowel"Ambitious Fellow was bought to be sold but we brought him across to Doncaster and couldn't get anyone to buy him - Peter Fahey, trainer."

Won a Grade 2 handicap over 2m4f a couple of years ago for Harry Fry before losing form; some good efforts in point-to-points, including recent win under this jockey; previously, was only around 7l off stablemate Solitary Man over 2m4f at Cork (disqualified, rider weighed in marginally light).
Comment
Only around 7l off stablemate Solitary Man over 2m4f at Cork and won point since

"He took us by surprise with how he won on his chasing debut at Hereford and then got found out against more experienced horses after a hike in the handicap. His last run was over two miles and I think that's where he'll start his campaign. I hope there's more to come. 04-10-23"
Quotes
"I'm relieved to finally get his head in front. In Excelsis Deo has been running well and stayed consistent without having the luck in running. Johnny [Burke] has given him a lovely ride, nursing him into it and we thought at the bottom of the hill this was the closest he'd been all season so we just hoped he'd come up the hill as he had done on a few runs previously. We'll see what happens from here but enjoy this first. We've been in various spots in this winner's enclosure so it's good to have finally won - Harry Fry, trainer."

Looked a smart prospect when beating Its On The Line at Down Royal in December 2024; disappointing overall since then, except for an 18l Fairyhouse win last year; 66-1 at Punchestown festival, still prominent when exiting a mile out; well held in a point a week later.

Quotes
"I was a bit worried about the ground but Five Star Getaway is a horse we've liked from last season. They don't always go and do what you hope but we think he's a very nice horse. We're looking forward to him going in to next season as well. There's a nice race at Punchestown for him, there's another at Sandown on Bet365 Gold Cup day and there's one for him at Ayr so there are plenty of options - Christian Williams, trainer."
2021-04-03 - Haydock"We've always thought a lot of Five Star Getaway. This is a qualifier for the (Challenger Series) final at Haydock next month and his owners Carl and Mark are based in Liverpool, so I think we'd likely go straight there with him - Christian Williams, trainer."
