Talented on AW and had more in hand than the narrow winning margin suggests when arriving late on the scene at Wolverhampton (about 1m) in November; was carried out of his ground when starting a forward move over C&D (good to firm) recently and has to be of interest in this lower grade.
Comment
Talented on AW; carried out of his ground over C&D latest; of interest in this lower grade
Stable Tour
"He's a really nice horse and is growing up and developing all the time. It was a rough race at Sandown on Saturday when he finished sixth but I'm sure he'll put that run behind him and show the running to be wrong. He's running over 7f at the moment but I wouldn't rule out a mile. 09-07-25"

Progressive filly who put the race to bed quite convincingly for her first handicap win, at Haydock (7f, good) last May; had a much stiffer task in the Sandringham (1m, good to firm) at Royal Ascot after but ran a cracker in fourth, drifting across from a high draw; off since though so fitness unknown and market helpful; tongue tied this time.
Comment
Convincing winner at Haydock (7f) then cracking fourth in big 1m Ascot handicap; off since
Stable Tour
"She's a very progressive filly and great to have around. She ran really well in the Sandringham at Ascot, where she was drawn away from the first three - if she'd have been drawn closer she might have given them something to think about. Being driven down in the heat, running in it and coming back again on the same day was a tall order for her. She's had three fairly quick runs and I'd imagine we'll look for a handicap towards the end of July. There's a 0-95 fillies' handicap at Goodwood that could fit the bill. 02-07-25"

Has course form; ran with great credit in stronger races than this as a 4yo when three wins included one in the Shergar Cup (first run at 1m, good to firm; acts on good to soft) at Ascot; he wasn't the same horse in either of his two runs last year but fared much better when a close third at Redcar last month; major player.
Comment
Excellent 4yo form at 7f/1m; out of sorts in two runs last year; back to form latest
Stable Tour
"He's come back in good shape and we started him off over seven furlongs at Musselburgh on Sunday to get a bit of the gas out of him. He won at Ascot at the Shergar Cup meeting and the Victoria Cup could be for him on his second start. The stiff seven at Ascot or sharp mile at York will be among his options. 14-04-25"

Form subsided slightly on final 2025 starts but now 2lb lower than his Carlisle win (1m, soft; acts on good) last June and he ran well for a long way in a strong Newbury handicap last month; may not be far away.
Comment
Form subsided slightly at the end of 2025 but 2lb below winning mark in June
Stable Tour
"I'm delighted with him and we've taken a very speculative punt and stuck him in the Derby. He had only two runs last year, winning his maiden at Epsom and then finishing fourth in a Group 3 at Deauville in August. He went for another novice at Wolverhampton last week because he wasn't qualified for a handicap mark and was third. We might look at a Derby trial for him. If he cuts it at that level then brilliant, but if not we'll take stock and rebuild him, but we're very excited about him and he's been training really well. 02-04-25"

All three wins for this yard at about 1m2f on a wide range of surfaces, most recently when making a winning return to action at Haydock (made all, just hung on) in April; also effective at 1m but raised 4lb to a career-high mark; non-runner 2.55 York on Friday.
Comment
All three wins for yard at 1m2f, most recently on reappearance; career-high mark now
Stable Tour
"He's a frustrating horse as he's so talented. He's 75 rated and should be 85. He wants a mile to 1m2f, but he's just keen. He's only had a couple of runs this year but we've got him right now. Hopefully he's going to string together a few runs, starting at Haydock on Thursday, and win a couple of races as he's well handicapped. 04-09-25"
Quotes
"Charlie said this morning that Empire Of Light was a better horse than the form of his first run suggested. He felt it was just too firm there for a big, heavy horse like him. He has gone well from the beginning to the end. That rain they had this morning has probably helped him as it was the extreme of conditions last time - Mark Johnston, joint-assistant trainer."

Has won on firm but best form on soft, as when winning the Lincoln (1m) in 2024; lightly raced with little return since but he was hampered on Newcastle AW last June; entitled to be rusty for new trainer on this first run since; missed a race earlier this month due to good to firm ground.
Comment
Best on soft, as when winning the Lincoln in 2024; lightly raced and lesser efforts since
Stable Tour
"He's been running well. He probably prefers time between his races and we may have made the mistake of running him too quickly at Goodwood the other day. Owen Lewis gets on very well with him at home, felt the ground was a bit soft and he didn't really like it. We'll freshen him up and he'll be out again in about a fortnight. 21-09-23"
Quotes
"It was a great performance, Mr Professor travelled supremely well through the race and loved the ground. David was frightened about kicking too soon but when he asked him he quickened nicely and he kept going. If it's soft at Newbury, you'd have to have a look at the Spring Cup. But will it be as testing? Who knows - Dominic Ffrench Davis, trainer."
2024-03-23 - Doncaster"Mr Professor has kept on improving this year. The straight track at Newmarket is where he's let us down but he just didn't settle there. He comes out of his races so well, we weigh ours every Monday and he'd put 8kg on since his last run. The ground was an unknown today but he battled to the line, though he wasn't doing an awful lot in front. He's in the sales next week and he is going to go, we'll see what money there is for him - Alice Haynes, trainer."

Had excuses for the fizzling out of his season in 2025 but he'd been a ready winner of his sole C&D start, last May, and later won off this mark in August; appreciated the return to good to firm ground when only narrowly failing to get up at Beverley (about 7f) last month; on the premises.

Lightly raced 4yo who won two 1m races (good) in Ireland last year; has needed both runs for this yard but stepped up on reappearance when just ahead of the hampered City Of Poets over C&D a fortnight ago; another advance is possible but needed.

Multiple wins at 1m and 1m1f (good or softer) include two over C&D; quite favourably treated now and he was a very respectable fourth at Ripon recently, when just behind a subsequent winner; needs a bit more here.

Stable Tour
"Unfortunately he won't be able to run in the Lincoln, which he finished seventh in last year, as he needed three weeks of rest at just the wrong time. He could be out in May and he's a good handicapper when the ground gets soft. He's been a victim of his consistency over the last 18 months as his mark didn't come down even though he didn't win, but he starts now lower than he did last year and I don't imagine he's any worse, so I hope he can win a nice handicap at some stage. 20-03-24"
Quotes
"We were getting Empirestateofmind ready for the Lincoln when he injured a hock and that put him on the back foot. We thought he'd run well in the Cambridgeshire but he was drawn in the middle and he was a bit fresh. He always needs a run. It's good to get him back. He's in the Balmoral Handicap next week and he'll run if he gets in - John Quinn, joint-trainer."
2024-10-11 - York"Empirestateofmind bumped into one at Newcastle last Saturday and he deserved that, he's so consistent. This is a very nice race to win - Ross Harmon, owner."

Ended 2025 in poor form but he built up a head of steam to take a late fourth on his recent Pontefract return (1m, good); now 4lb lower than his Haydock win (1m, good to firm) last August so weighted to be competitive.
Comment
Never-nearer fourth on Pontefract return; 4lb lower than 1m win in August; competitive

"He's a huge horse and another one we bought at the Horses In Training Sale. We're very happy with him at home and he has some decent form. We think a mile is his trip, but he might get a bit further; we won't know until we run him. 23-04-24"

Has won on good to soft but her latest three wins, at about 1m, came on good to firm; on a highish mark now but off since September and past evidence suggests she'll come on for the run.
Comment
Handles most ground; on a highish mark; past evidence suggests she'll come on for the run
Stable Tour
"She's been a consistent filly for the last two seasons. She won at Carlisle in May and I think it's pretty clear she should have won last time at Beverley, but Callum Rodriguez unfortunately got caught in a pocket and she was beaten a neck. She rarely runs a bad race and fillies' handicaps are appealing for her. She goes on all ground and I think there's still a bit more in there. We'd like to maybe go for a higher grade, just so that she isn't carrying top weight all the time. She's a strong filly but not the biggest and giving weight away to progressive three-year-olds isn't easy. 23-07-25"
Quotes
"Zapphire is not winning out of turn. She's not entirely straightforward but she has a decent level of ability. I popped her in a fillies' handicap in a fortnight at Leopardstown and that might be interesting. She loves soft ground so if it rained over there we'd be even happier - Steve Brown, trainer's husband and assistant."
2024-08-31 - Beverley"I'm pleased with that. Zapphire has definitely got ability and she's done that well but she can be a bit of a madam - Julie Camacho, trainer."

Won six races at 5f-7f between January and May 2025 but off after a lesser effort in July and down the field here on his return in April; has gone close over the extended 7f at Beverley so should stay an easy 1m if back to full strength but others look stronger for the win.
Comment
Won six races at 5f-7f in 2025; down the field latest after a layoff; others more likely
Stable Tour
"He won six races last year and rose from a mark of 50 to 83. He's had a good holiday and is ready to start again. We're going to try to step him up in trip this year and he'll start off over a mile. He's going to be great fun in those mile handicaps over the summer. He goes on any ground and the faster they go the better he'll run. He just needs to settle - it's in his head sometimes. He's not the easiest of conveyances but he's capable of doing some good. 04-03-26"
Quotes
"You'd like to think Frankies Dream is open to a bit of improvement. They went hard up front but that suited him. He's still learning to race, he's very forward going, but today he's switched off and finished strong. I think he'd stay 6f but he'd have to switch off again and a fast-run 5f is ideal - Joey Haynes, jockey, talking to Sky Sports Racing."

All four wins over 7f, once on this track; probably stays further and is worth another go over 1m but he was last to finish on his comeback here over 7f in April and likely other days.
Comment
All four wins at 7f; worth another go over 1m but finished last on reappearance here
Quotes
"Count Palatine is relatively inexperienced by all accounts. He's probably a tad better with some ease in the ground, so that combined with the prospects of maybe some headgear, or something like that, to keep his mind on the job could help him improve. There was a little bit of pace early on, although I didn't feel like we were going mad, he really likes this quick ground - Sean Kirrane, jockey."
2025-08-20 - Carlisle"I said to Connor [Beasley, jockey] that the last time Count Palatine ran we sat him handy and I didn't feel he enjoyed that so I said to just drop him in and ride him to finish. He liked the ground and did it well - Michael Dods, trainer, speaking on Racing TV."
