Appeared to act on good to soft last term (unraced on soft); has gone from strength to strength this year, first on AW but most strikingly when returned to turf for a dominant, front-running display as 10-11 favourite in 11-runner race at Chester (1m2f, good); 9lb higher today but highly respected.
Comment
Going from strength to strength this year, dominant at Chester (1m2f, good) latest; up 9lb
Quotes
"Respond is a strong, front-running horse and Oisin [Murphy] has given him a beautiful ride. The plan was if he broke to make it and it was going to be a challenge for anything to get past him - Anna Lisa Balding, trainer's assistant, speaking to Sky Sports Racing. We were very hopeful. Respond got a bit of a soft lead, which was handy. Having got to the front, he was able to dictate. He can be a bit of a tearaway - he'd started favourite the last six times so he's obviously expected to be a good horse but he gets a little bit headstrong. Around here, once you get the front you can take your time and dictate the pace. The Duke Of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot is in the thought process. We thought he might have to go up a couple of pounds and he probably will on the back of that - Jason Fildes, owners' racing manager."

Has run respectably on soft; hooded on last two starts, with a back-to-form second of six when stepped up to 1m2f for C&D handicap (good) on 2026 reappearance; raised 5lb since and probably not straightforward but that was a promising effort here from out the back (ran on well with too much to do) and he has to be in serious calculations.
Comment

Stable Tour
"He's got talent but whether he's got the mentality to match is probably open to debate. I was careful with him last year and he may need careful handling again. I wouldn't be surprised to see him win a good race and that might be over a mile and a quarter, but I don't know that he's as brave as I'd like him to be. 01-04-26"
"He ran very well last week when third in the Fortune Stakes at Sandown. We weren't disappointed at all. The conditions were quite tough and the winner's pretty smart in those conditions, while the second had the run of the race, and we did well to make up ground. Before that he'd won three of his four starts. He didn't quite put himself in the picture for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, so he won't go there and I'm not sure whether I'll run him again this autumn, although he is still in at Newmarket on Friday at the time of going to press. He's been quite immature all year and I think he'll make up into a really good four-year-old, so I might wait for next year. He's a nice horse and we haven't quite unlocked his full potential yet. 24-09-25"
Quotes
"Sallaal ticks all the boxes. He's very well related to a lot of nice horses, he's a Frankel and that's in him as he's a little bit quirky sometimes, but he's still a big baby and we brought him here hoping he'd race properly and relax, and he did. He realised what his job was in the last furlong. I felt Arctic Grey come to me and we both got racing together down the hill. When I gave him a reminder he really put his head down and galloped strongly through the line, which is what we were all expecting and hoping he'd do - Ray Dawson, jockey."
2025-05-04 - Hamilton"Sallaal has been a true professional. The only time he wasn't was when they quickened and he couldn't find his legs, but he dealt with it quite well. He showed a bit of class - Jack Mitchell, rider."

"He was solid on the Flat and jumped nicely when winning on his debut over hurdles at Sedgefield. I don't know what he beat at Chepstow last time but he did it well under a penalty and he's likely to go for the Wensleydale up at Wetherby next before he has a break. Beyond that we can look at something like the Adonis and hopefully he can end up at Cheltenham in March. 24-10-25"

"Ammes jumped much better and won well. I don't know what he's beaten but he's done it well under a penalty. We'll have to look at something better now, possibly at Listed level or something else. I've not made a plan yet but there's plenty of options. He's a nice type with plenty of scope. He'll be a great dual-purpose horse, but after that you've got to hope he'll end up at Cheltenham - James Owen, trainer."
2025-10-11 - Chepstow"Ammes raced well and always felt the winner, but he'll have to brush up on his jumping if he's going to be a very good juvenile. If any horse is going to be keen, they're going to be keen around here for some reason. It's obviously only his first run [over hurdles], so hopefully he can keep getting better, but it was a nice performance - Sean Bowen, jockey."

Usually races prominently (didn't when trying 1m4f last time); a mostly solid 2025 included 1m2f Listed wins in May and November; has started 2026 in downbeat fashion but today's ground could prompt something better, as his top three ratings have been registered on softer than good; below-form favourite in this race two years ago but was denied a clear run; needs to be back in peak form to have any chance.

"He's come out of his win at Goodwood really well and will probably run in the Wolferton if there's a little bit of juice in the ground. 12-06-25"
"A beautiful colt and, after winning his only start last year at Nottingham by five lengths, we put him away for the winter. On his return at Newmarket earlier this month I thought he would take some beating, but it could be that trying to concede 7lb to Waipiro will look to have been some task as I thought the winner looked smart on the day. I had wanted to run him at Newbury later that week as I felt the course would suit him more but I saw Sheikh Obaid had two other entries so I opted for Newmarket, although I know the Sheikh would not have minded where I ran him. We will look for a Derby trial if we can get some ground on the easy side. 07-05-23"
Quotes
"I didn't do a whole lot really. Liberty Lane jumped, got himself into a lovely rhythm and hit the line really well. He's a really honest and genuine horse. They didn't go that quickly and I wanted him rolling before the Dip, and he met the rising ground and really relished going up the hill. He loves it here and he loves the ground, so he's very straightforward - jockey Shane Gray, speaking on Racing TV."
2025-11-01 - Newmarket"Liberty Lane won the Cambridgeshire off top weight, but this was probably the best performance of his career so far. He's improving and I think he'll stay further than this too. I knew cantering to the start that he'd enjoy this. He travels so well and is a lovely, big horse. We can look forward to the rest of the season now and he can be a keen horse, but at the three-pole I thought I had everything put to bed - Clifford Lee, jockey, speaking to Racing TV."
2025-05-23 - Goodwood"I was a bit worried at halfway as they looked like they had it on the stands' side, but I had walked the course yesterday and I was convinced that's not where you wanted to be. The ground was 100 per cent the reason Liberty Lane didn't perform in the race last year, as he wants a bit of juice in the ground to be able to get into a rhythm. I ran him in the Dante as a three-year-old and he was always running a bit free as a younger horse but he's always been a good horse - Karl Burke, trainer."
2024-09-28 - Newmarket"Liberty Lane was sick after the Lincoln and scoped very dirty. The only reasons I ran him today were because I knew Sheikh Obaid would be here and it was a hundred grand race that we had entered early in. He had been coming back to himself in recent days but I didn't expect that. He's learning to relax in his races now as he was always very keen. Clifford gave him a lovely ride today and he will improve for that - Karl Burke, trainer."
2024-05-04 - Newmarket"All Liberty Lane does is gallop. I always thought soft ground and a mile is what he wants - Clifford Lee, jockey."
2023-09-16 - Doncaster"That felt very good, Liberty Lane travelled well throughout and relished the ease in the ground. He's a lovely horse, tries hard and had been working really well at home. He's a big colt but he's so chilled out and relaxes really nicely. Lucy (Burke) has been riding him a lot at home and I'd galloped him a few times; he's progressed really nicely - Clifford Lee, jockey."

Rather disappointing for Dermot Weld in Ireland after winning a soft-ground maiden; has still not added to that 2024 win but he's been highly competitive in 1m2f handicaps on all three starts for new connections, runner-up to an unexposed rival in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar (good to firm) 11 days ago; each-way claims again.

"He was bought at the horses in training sale in October and I quite like him. He's a Frankel brother to Homeless Songs who had a big reputation in Ireland before losing his way. Four wins in 2024 included this race on good to soft, with the other three on soft; performed near his best only a couple of times last season, which has been followed by gelding and wind operations; also now wears first-time headgear; some warning signals and he's not slipped far in the weights.
Comment

Quotes
"The ground is key with Bolster. He's probably pounds ahead of himself on soft, even heavy ground. It makes such a difference. He stays so well. When he runs on good ground the speed horses just have that extra gear, but from three out today he was away and there was no stopping him. We'll speak to connections but it'll be likely one more or no more runs for him this year - James Cowley, trainer's assistant."
2024-10-12 - York"I'd say Bolster is a Group 3 horse - that's where we'll go, but he wouldn't want fast ground. We'll have a good look at an autumn campaign for him - Karl Burke, trainer."

Quotes
"Quai De Bethune found the ground a little bit fast maybe and he wasn't going early; Rossa and I were both struggling, but we were able to save a little bit of ground on the turn and Rossa cleverly managed to keep me in a little bit in the straight, which delayed my challenge, and I wasn't sure I had won, but he's a Persian King, slow to mature, and he's getting to a nice level now. Acts on good to soft, much more to prove on soft; won the Cesarewitch at Newmarket (2m2f, good to firm; 10lb higher today) last October and had some very solid AW form over 1m2f-2m this year, prior to tailing off at 50-1 in the Group 3 Ormonde at Chester four weeks ago; he's not on a bad mark but plenty needs to go right if one of his late rushes is to prevail in this.

"Beylerbeyi is quite an amazing horse actually. He has never learned to settle and has always wanted further but has been so hard on himself. The big worries today were getting him to the start and settling in the race. He has done both and Billy gave him a superb ride. It was a good performance today and an exceptional performance from the jockey. We are actually quite lucky that he was beaten in his last two starts as that meant he had less weight today. We didn't have a clue if he'd stay the trip today because it is ultimately a tough thing to do. He has kept progressing and what he has achieved today is amazing. It was a huge performance from him and a huge performance from the jockey - not such a huge performance from the trainer! - Ian Williams, trainer."

Won a soft-ground maiden in 2023 but peak efforts have been on good in the last 13 months; unraced here but scored twice over 1m2f at the similar Chester track, including on his only start this season; all three handicap wins were in tight finishes, but he's gone up just 3lb since latest and is likely to be seriously involved if he goes on the ground.
Comment
Peak efforts have been on good going in the last 13 months; won at Chester on reappearance
Stable Tour
"He won at Chester's May meeting at 33-1. Like a lot of his sire's progeny, he favours a bit of dig in the ground and they did an unbelievable job watering at Chester, so the ground worked out for him there. He finished seventh at Ripon last Thursday having been second for a long way, trying to keep tabs on the leader. 09-06-25"
Quotes
"Let's Dream loves the track. I was worried the ground might have quickened up a little bit too much for him but, as he's getting older, he's getting a bit more versatile and he's been very well prepared - Hector Crouch, jockey, speaking to Sky Sports Racing."
2026-05-07 - Chester"Warren [Fentiman] gave Let's Dream an absolute peach of a ride. I told him to get in the first two or three and just control the race. With a low weight, Warren's claim and his two-year-old form he was well handicapped. He rode it to perfection and we've gone back-to-back in this. It's a lovely race to get in the bag but there's no immediate targets - Michael Bell, trainer."

Career-high mark after April win; ran poorly in this last year on his only visit to Epsom
Quotes
"It's always good to get winners early on in the season and we've been looking at this race for a while, so it's great to win. Have Secret is what we call a Saturday horse and this performance was the best of his career. We tried him over hurdles, and Brian Hughes schooled him and he was absolutely brilliant, but he looked like he had never seen a hurdle at Catterick. I think he probably thought life on the Flat wasn't too bad when he saw the jumping. It's very difficult this time of year; he's had his second run and you don't know how fit the other horses are - Richard Fahey, joint-trainer, speaking to Racing TV."
2026-04-21 - Pontefract"Have Secret has run a cracking race, which he has done all season. He's a horse who is getting better with racing, but he keeps just finding one or two. But we are delighted with him - Richard Fahey, trainer."
2023-08-03 - Goodwood"Have Secret tends to race behind the bridle but keeps finding. The step up in trip helped him and he handled the ground. Oisin Orr, jockey."
2022-10-05 - Nottingham"Have Secret deserved that after he ran well at Chester last week on a course that didn't suit him. He was going to go up the ratings so we thought we'd come here and he's going to go up even further now. He'll make a nice 3yo next year - Robin O'Ryan, assistant to trainer Richard Fahey."

Won on soft as 2yo; reappearance win last April saw him pitched afterwards into Listed and Group events, in which he was initially on the premises but his handicap mark shot up as a result; ninth of 12 to Respond at Chester wasn't a greatly auspicious return to handicap company on reappearance this season and connections now reach for headgear.

Ninth of 12 at Chester wasn't a greatly auspicious return to handicap; first headgear
Stable Tour
"He's tough, tries really hard and keeps on improving. He's probably not far off being the best horse by Ribchester - he'd certainly be in the top three anyway. He scooted up at Nottingham on his return this season and then was a really good third in the Dee Stakes at Chester from the widest draw. He proved that was no fluke when fifth at Royal Ascot last time in the Group 3 Hampton Court behind Trinity College. To be honest he absolutely hated that fast ground - I see him as a horse who would go on heavy ground, so we can mark that effort up. I think if we can find him a bit of cut in the ground we might be able to improve him a little bit more. The next target pencilled in for him is the Listed Glasgow Stakes at Hamilton on July 18 in the hope that it's the only place you'll find soft ground in July. But if the heatwave continues we'll need to have a rethink. 09-07-25"

Below form in this race in 2024 and also last April on his only other visit here; had an excellent autumn last year on AW and won again in January, but he's struggled to make an impact in more recent AW starts and finished last at York on return to turf; return to 1m2f would suit if he were in better form but this may be a tough turf mark.

Quotes
"King's Cove was qualified and those finals are good races to have because I wouldn't win many £80,000 handicaps. There was prize-money down to sixth, so I thought he'd get some of it. He's had a fair few runs and he's had a bit of a break, but he came back and won at the track last month, and his last three races have been good. He likes the all-weather - he prefers that to the grass - so we might get him back out in two or three weeks - David Evans, trainer.King's Cove was tough. He jumped good and I didn't really want to lead but I felt like I had the race in control from where I was. It took a while to build him up but once he got his head down and the more I asked him, the more grit he showed me - Neil Callan, jockey, speaking on Racing TV."

"It was nice for Dhahabi to get his head in front. He saw it out well and stepping up in trip was always going to be his forte. He could be on the Dubai Carnival team - Charlie Appleby, trainer."
2022-09-22 - Newmarket"I'm very pleased with Dhahabi and it will have been a great experience for him. He's a very good-looking individual and has a great stride. Stepping him up in trip will certainly bring about improvement, but we'll give him a bit of a break now, and may have one or two more runs this season with an eye on next year - Charlie Appleby, trainer."
