Won on good to soft as a juvenile and reappeared with good-ground C&D success at last year's Spring meeting; that was his only start in 2025 and he made a respectable comeback despite hanging when fifth of 11 at Newbury (1m2f) three weeks ago; drops back down in trip with cheekpieces added and his best days are almost certainly ahead of him; player.
Comment
C&D winner; fair return and drops back in trip in cheekpieces; unexposed; he's a player
Stable Tour
"We thought he might have been a Britannia type last year but he missed a chunk of the season. We've given him time and he could be one for the Suffolk Stakes at Newmarket and perhaps the Royal Hunt Cup. He's done incredibly well from three to four. 02-04-26"

Won a Salisbury maiden (1m2f, good to firm) last June when sporting first-time cheekpieces for previous yard; yet to score for current stable but he's been placed on six of those seven starts and it was a narrow defeat when second of ten at Windsor (1m, good to firm; visored) under Silvestre De Sousa latest; soft going would ask a question but he's well drawn to go forward and newly fitted blinkers might eke out more.
Comment
Soft conditions would ask a question but otherwise could go well in new headgear

Gelded before winning at Windsor (good to firm) last May and finished that season with further wins at Sandown (also 1m, soft) and Newmarket (1m1f, good to firm); on the premises when he suffered chance-ending interference at Newbury last time and this tactically versatile sort is well drawn to sit handy; interesting.
Comment
Hampered latest; tactically versatile sort who is well drawn to sit handy; interesting

"I was glad he won a couple at the end as it was getting a little frustrating last year. He could go for the Suffolk Stakes and I'm hoping he'll end up in the Royal Hunt Cup, and maybe in the Cambridgeshire as well. He should be really competitive in those types of races and should pop up in one as he likes that style of racing. 27-04-26"

Unraced on ground softer than good; Chester maiden (7.5f) winner who made all on Newmarket's July course last August; had been gelded when successfully repeating those tactics on his comeback at Newmarket (also 1m) in April but below that form back there at the Guineas meeting the following month; not dismissed, with Oisin Murphy sticking with him.
Comment
Made all on return; not so good latest; unraced on softer than good but Murphy keeps faith

Wide-margin win (7f, heavy) on his sole start at two promised plenty and, after being campaigned over 1m2f and 1m4f, he recorded a clear career best when second of 15 over 1m at Newbury (good to soft) on his final start at three; subsequently gelded and his reappearance when beaten less than 4l at Newbury in April was perfectly respectable; unexposed and he's respected.
Comment
Good second (1m, good to soft) on final start at three; respectable return; unexposed
Stable Tour
"He's one of the most gorgeous horses you'll see; he's massive. I thought he'd get a mile and a half, but it appears he doesn't. He's the type who'll keep improving at four and I was pleased with him in the Spring Cup, although he got caught a bit flat-footed over the mile with the ground as quick as it was. On soft ground he has a real turn of foot, and he'll come on for the run. 21-04-26"
Quotes
"We were hoping to get Stem on the track quite quickly from the breeze up but Richard Hannon kept saying he needed more time and we've been as patient as we can. We went down there last week and he surprised everyone with how well he worked. After that we were hoping he'd run well today. Ryan said he'd get a mile plus eventually and that was great - Johnny de la Hey, owner."

Versatile regarding ground and he was winning his 12th race when beating Jimmy Speaking and Final Night at Newmarket (1m, good) three weeks ago; that was a comfortable win and he has the assistance of Ryan Moore but this demands more from him (has never won off a mark this high).
Comment
Won 12th race when scoring last time; has never won off a mark this high, though
Stable Tour
"He's won ten times for us. We gave him a bit of a winter campaign and he ran very well twice and then we ran him in a decent race at Lingfield on Good Friday - he got a terrible draw, got stuck out the back and didn't like that. We'll now go back to turf racing more than likely. He likes some cut in the ground and is the type to pop up and win a decent handicap somewhere. 30-04-25"
Quotes
"Sterling Knight has been a magnificent servant and he's a fun horse for the Turf Club 2024, who own half of him. He's won on the July course before and has now won on the Rowley Mile - Ed Dunlop, trainer."
2026-05-16 - Newmarket"We played the same cards as last time here and although the ground is a bit softer today, Sterling Knight has absolutely thrived on it. I started to make a move at the three pole and the only place to go was the inside. Luckily, he had plenty in the tank to get through the gaps. When he hit the front he idled and waited for something to come upsides him again. He's done it well -- Rhys Clutterbuck, jockey."
2022-10-14 - Haydock"Sterling Knight is tough and durable and was entitled to run his race. It was a good performance at Windsor and he was going up 7lb, so we ran him with the penalty and 3lb off with Rhys, but he's definitely improving. He's strengthening and the handicapper can stop anything, but we hope this isn't the end of him. He's won over seven on the all-weather, but we just felt he wasn't seeing it out and he has a load of toe, so a stiff six here has really suited him. There's a good programme for three-year-old sprint handicappers and he'll have to follow it - Robin Trevor-Jones, travelling head lad."

He made his debut only as a 4yo but it was a winning one at Newcastle (1m); subsequently useful form on AW included another narrow win at that venue (1m2f) in August for George Scott and he went mighty close over latter C&D on stable debut in November; niggled along at various stages when seventh on his turf debut (10.5f) last month and some guesswork is involved as to whether this test will bring out the best in him.

7yo who was 6lb lower when landing this race (good to soft) last season; this year's running is more competitive but his success in the Thirsk Hunt Cup (1m, good to firm) last month was close to a career best and he had a possible excuse when failing to back that up at York; can't be ruled out.
Comment
Won this last year off 6lb lower; won penultimate start and excuse latest; not ruled out
Stable Tour
"He ran some good races last year without winning and will do all the same races again. On his work at home, he looks like he'll take a step forward. 14-04-25"
"I ran him over too far on his return at Musselburgh as I don't think he stayed the 1m1f trip, but it was good to see him win the Thirsk Hunt Cup. He might have been undone by the rain at York last time as I think he does like a sound surface. He might go back to Epsom as he won there last year. He's in the Hunt Cup as well and he'll run in all the big handicaps. He's a grand horse with a lot of ability. 27-05-26"
Quotes
"That was perfect, although Mirsky probably travelled too well into the race. I didn't want to get there that early, but I didn't want to let him down either. Thankfully, he's a willing companion and kept sticking his head out. He had a nice run at Musselburgh and probably tightened up for it. He's a good early summer horse as he comes to hand pretty quickly. He showed that last year and has done it well again today - Jockey Mark Winn, Speaking to Racing TV."
2026-05-02 - Thirsk"Mirsky ran well a few times last year without winning, but we always felt he had something like this in him. It maybe took us a while to get the hang of him, but he's won his last two now, which is great. The Hunt Cup would be a possibility now - David O'Meara, trainer."
2025-06-06 - Epsom"Mirsky was second in the Clipper Logistics at the Ebor meeting last year but that's his first win for us. It was a long enough last furlong, he's a strong traveller and seems best ridden prominently - David O'Meara, trainer."

Comment
Course winner who was back near his best when second last time; far from dismissed
Stable Tour
"I'm delighted with him and we've taken a very speculative punt and stuck him in the Derby. He had only two runs last year, winning his maiden at Epsom and then finishing fourth in a Group 3 at Deauville in August. He went for another novice at Wolverhampton last week because he wasn't qualified for a handicap mark and was third. We might look at a Derby trial for him. If he cuts it at that level then brilliant, but if not we'll take stock and rebuild him, but we're very excited about him and he's been training really well. 02-04-25"

Soft-ground specialist who landed a fifth success when scoring at Ayr (1m) in September; yet to get going in three starts this year but he's edging down the weights and the booking of Colin Keane catches the eye; requires monitoring in the market with every drop of rain in his favour.
Comment
Soft-ground specialist; down the weights; Colin Keane booking is interesting; watch market
Stable Tour
"He's a very nice horse and the form of his Salisbury debut worked out very well - he was on the opposite side to the winner there and it would have been a close-run thing if they'd both been together. He's a big horse who's improved for being given a bit of time and turned inside out, he's grown and put on so much weight. We'll find a maiden then step him up and we think an awful lot of him. 10-05-22"
Quotes
"Thunder Roar absolutely loves soft ground so we were fairly confident. He's won here before and he loves it round here. You've just got to ride him with loads of confidence. He hasn't had many runs this year and he might go to York and then there's Ascot as well - Kaine Wood, joint-trainer."

Seven wins include three on good to soft/soft; also won on AW at Kempton (1m) in February but only midfield in valuable events at Newcastle (AW) and Ascot (good) on his last two starts; however, latter effort was better than it looks having been poorly drawn.

Last effort, from poor draw, was better than it looks
Stable Tour
"We're aiming high with him this season and I think he ran well in the Hungerford. We won't see him at his best until it's soft and with some cut in the ground at Doncaster, I wouldn't be surprised to see him run a huge race in the Park Stakes. 11-09-24"
"He had a great winter on the sand, picking up decent prize-money and winning over a mile for the first time. He's probably going to run in the Victoria Cup, as he goes well at Ascot and is suited by a flat-out 7f. He's taking his racing as well as ever, loves the game, and owes us nothing. 22-04-26"
Quotes
"Tom Marquand just thought Popmaster had a little look at the other horse and it's so unfair [to be beaten in a photo]. He's running out of his skin at the moment and he's a great servant. If he doesn't run on Champions Day I think we'll put him away for the season but I'll have to speak to Ed Walker - Laurence Bellman, owner."
2023-10-07 - Ascot"I've been second in so many big handicaps, an Ayr Gold Cup with Great Ambassador and we were second in the Kensington Palace here this week, and second in a Stewards' Cup. It's so frustrating, but they're so hard to win. Popmaster was spot on for today and I remember saying to Laurence (Bellman, owner) at Chelmsford when we were beaten and so disappointed that might have just won us a Wokingham - because it got his confidence back and we didn't have a penalty. It looked like we had a good draw and Tom gave him a peach of a ride, but we've Ryan Moore to blame! We'll go for all the big sprint handicaps and we hope he's got one in him - Ed Walker, trainer."
2022-06-18 - Ascot"We think Popmaster will be better next year and he's a good fun sprinter, who has been a bit unlucky this year - Laurence Bellman, owner."

It was this mark he raced from when well held at York three weeks ago; career best needed

"He won again at Pontefract last month - he likes it there - and was then overfaced a touch at York last time in the Hambleton. He could progress again, though. 27-05-26"
Quotes
"The last couple of springs haven't gone smoothly but Walsingham had a clean run through this time and I hope he can kick on. When we bought him in 2023 we thought he could be a proper handicapper - Martin Dixon, of The Horse Watchers."
2026-04-29 - Pontefract"Walsingham jumped really well and took a strong hold, Danny Tudhope said he can race lazily but he didn't today. He travelled into it really well, but I could have done with something taking me into the race a bit longer because when he hit the front he didn't do too much. He's done it nicely. I know it's hard to get home here at Ascot on soft ground, so I was keeping an eye on the leaders but he was always giving me such a good feel that I knew I'd get them back - Brodie Hampson, jockey."
