Learn how to create football alerts, choose your tracked matches and build custom match filters in Touchline. Follow the quick start, then find answers on goal alerts, notifications and saving your setup.
Quick start
Start with one match.
Touchline runs on live data, so there is no practice mode. Open the app, expand Available matches and add a single fixture with + Track. Arming one simple filter against one game is the quickest way to see the whole flow.
Open the tool
Click Open Touchline to go to the app. The data connection is already set up, so you can start choosing your matches straight away.
Choose your fixtures
Expand Available matches and select the date. Click + Track beside a fixture, or use Track all, or the per-competition button beside it — one appears for each competition in the list you have loaded. Your choices appear in Tracked matches.
Choose and arm a rule
Preview a preset in Saved filters. On a tracked match, click + Alert and tick the filters you want. To apply a filter across your whole list, tick Arm for every tracked match on that filter in Saved filters. It also applies to matches you add later.
Set your notifications
Choose a refresh interval. Enable Sound, then use Edit sound to choose a tone, set volume and preview it. Click Enable desktop alerts and grant permission. Once allowed, the same button switches them on and off, and sends a sample notification when you turn them on so you can see it works.
Keep monitoring
Leave the page open, unpaused and the computer awake. The Alerts count shows enabled filters for each match. When conditions trigger, matches highlight and a brief in-page message appears, with sound and desktop alerts if enabled.
Create your first filter
Try a concrete rule: the home side has one goal and fewer than three shots.
- In Saved filters, click Create filter.
- Name it Home goal, few shots.
- Set the first condition to Goals → Home → = → 1.
- Click + AND condition.
- Choose Total shots → Home → < → 3.
- Click Save filter, then arm it through the match’s + Alert button.
This checks the home team’s goals and shots. It does not require the home team to be leading. Add Goals → Away → = → 0 if you want exactly 1–0.
How AND and OR fit together
Every condition inside one group must be true: that’s AND. Use Add OR group for an alternative set of conditions. Any complete group can trigger the rule.
(Home goals = 1 AND Home shots < 3)
OR (Away goals = 1 AND Away shots < 3)
One filter now watches the same pattern for either side.
Creating a filter from a match’s + Alert → Create new alert saves and enables it for that match. Creating one from Saved filters saves it without automatically arming it.
Three rules to try
Late draw with activity
- Match minute ≥ 70
- Relative score = 0
- Shots on target → Both teams ≥ 6
Relative score means home goals minus away goals. Zero means the scores are level.
Shots dry up
- First-half shots → Both teams ≥ 10
- Second-half shots → Both teams ≤ 2
- Match minute ≥ 65
First and second-half totals are worked out from stored match data, so this is accurate even on a game you started tracking after half-time.

Frequently asked questions
Why is an alert armed but nothing has happened?
Armed means the rule is enabled. It only triggers when its conditions are met on usable, fresh data. Click the match’s Alerts count to see enabled filters. Selecting a saved filter in the dropdown only previews it; it does not arm it. Check that monitoring is not paused and that the required statistics are available.
How often does the data refresh?
Tracked matches use the interval you select: 30 seconds, 60 seconds, two minutes or five minutes. The next timer starts after a refresh completes, so requests take additional time. Available matches are refreshed after their five-minute cache expires during polling. Refresh now and Refresh available matches let you request an update manually. Provider updates and background-browser throttling can add delay.
Will the app work if I close the page or put my device to sleep?
No. This is a browser-based monitor, not a background server. Keep the page open and the computer awake. Browsers can delay work in background tabs. Reloading restores your saved setup but starts a fresh alert session, so a rule whose conditions are already true on a match still in play can alert again. Matches that finished while you were away are dropped from tracking rather than re-alerting, and you can clear any that remain with Clear finished.
Where are my filters and settings saved?
Signed in, your filters, column layout and sound settings are saved to your account and follow you between devices. Signed out, they are kept in this browser only. Tracked matches, your chosen competitions and per-match arming always stay in the browser, because they describe one sitting at one screen. Export your filters and column profiles to keep a backup or share them.
Do alerts repeat?
Ordinary statistic rules fire once per match and rule during the current page session. Use Re-arm in the match’s alert list to reset them. Event rules can fire again for newly detected goals, half changes, VAR updates or score corrections. Several goals between polls can produce a single update. Initial data establishes a baseline rather than replaying old events.
What does “—” mean?
The value is unavailable, stale or not yet known; it is not zero. Missing values do not satisfy normal comparisons. The No stats available preset is different: it checks for a successful statistics response containing no usable numeric stats. It does not equate a failed connection or pre-match state with missing live statistics.
Why do some filters need history?
They no longer do. Instant response, Late siege and the game-of-two-halves comparisons are all worked out from stored match data in match minutes, so they do not depend on how long you have been watching or on your refresh interval, and they survive a pause or a reload. What still needs you present are the change-based rules — New goal, Half started, Half finished and the VAR rules — which fire on something happening while the page is open.
Can it tell me exactly when a VAR review starts?
Not reliably. The VAR review / decision rule follows new VAR events supplied by the provider, which may report a decision rather than the start of a review. Goal overturned uses an explicit cancellation event; Score corrected detects a score decrease without assuming its cause was VAR.
Why are desktop alerts blocked or silent?
The button reads on, off, blocked or unavailable. Blocked means the browser is refusing: allow notifications for this site from the padlock or site-settings menu in the address bar. Also check your operating system’s notification settings and any focus or do-not-disturb mode. For sound, turn Sound on, open Edit sound and use Preview; check the volume and whether the tab is muted. A browser permission grant does not guarantee the operating system will show every notification.
Can I use Touchline on a phone?
These pages work anywhere, but the alerts board itself needs a laptop or desktop and will say so on a narrow screen. It puts a wide table of live statistics beside your filters, and there is no arrangement of that which works on a phone.
What should I do if match data is not loading?
Check your internet connection and make sure monitoring is not paused, then click Refresh now. For the fixture list, use Refresh available matches. If the problem continues, note the error message and report it to the person managing your Touchline connection.
Does the app predict results or guarantee a profitable strategy?
No. The filters identify combinations and changes in the supplied data. Presets are examples to explore, not validated predictions or guarantees of a particular match outcome.
