Four-time Listed winner who made Group 3 breakthrough at Saint-Cloud (1m, very soft) last October; ran well when 2l fourth in Group 2 Huxley Stakes at Chester (10.3f, good) four weeks ago; third in this last year and a penalty shouldn't prevent her being competitive again.

Comment

Third in this last year; won French Group 3 last autumn; creditable 4th at Chester latest

Stable Tour

"She was a real flag-bearer for us last year, winning eight races in all. To win her first race off 59 in May and then win a Listed race by 12 lengths and finish off on 107 was phenomenal. Once she started winning she kept pulling out more and more. She looks like she's strengthened up loads and I think we'll have a bit of fun again this year. Soft ground is paramount for her. The only bad run she had was at York and I was kicking myself for running as I walked the track and it was too quick, but we thought we have to try her on quick ground at some stage. We know now it's not her gig. As soon as she got back on to soft, she relished it again and finished off the season really strongly. We were struggling for a race to start her off this time and ended up running her over 7f at Haydock, which is too short but we needed to get a run into her. She's got loads of options but it's down to the weather. There's the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth at Epsom on Saturday and then Royal Ascot. If we don't get the ground, we'll have to go to France or Ireland. She's working the house down at home and is ready to rock and roll. 30-05-24"

Quotes

"I've been adamant for two seasons Sparks Fly is a Group 1 mare if she gets her conditions. She's had a tough year on the wrong ground and when she gets her conditions, she's unbeatable. She's a lot better around a left-handed track but soft ground is key. She'll race on again next year as a six-year-old and we'll try and win her a Group 1 - David Loughnane, trainer."

2025-10-26 - Saint-Cloud

"Sparks Fly has run a blinder, she just didn't get out in time. She's handled the ground fine and that's the first time she's gone and got black type with good in the going description, I'm thrilled with the run. It was a real blinder and it opens up a few more options for her now. I've always thought she was a Group Three horse and she's proved it there. I thought she was the best horse in the race, but just got held up and didn't get there in time - David Loughnane, trainer."

2025-06-07 - Epsom

"We've not done our usual thing of bowling her out in front and Sparks Fly has quickened away really impressively. We've got so much in hand I think that next year's going to be a really fun year with her - Laura Pearson, jockey."

2024-11-10 - Saint-Cloud

"Sparks Fly is unreal. I'm so proud of her mother [Stepping Out], who has produced some amazing horses for us. She's had her, Caroline Dale and Baby Steps, and they were all very useful. We thought last time in France she could have gone a bit faster even though she was in front, so Laura decided to go forward again this time and play catch me if you can. The filly never stopped and she loved it ? she had her ears pricked the whole way around. We'll go back to Saint-Cloud for the Prix Isola Bella she won last year. It's on November 10 and she'll get her preferred soft ground there - Dave Lowe, owner."

2024-10-30 - Nottingham

"Sparks Fly has not had the best of seasons but the ground was wrong for her at the Curragh and we had to take her to the other end of the track because she hangs and we have to do what she wants to do. This track suits her down to the ground. She has a lot of ability and a lot of spirit and, as long as we point that in the right direction, she takes us there - Laura Pearson, jockey."

2024-10-04 - Saint-Cloud

"Every time I ride Sparks Fly she seems to be coming on mentally and physically. The sky's the limit. I remember when I rode her at Wolverhampton on her first go (in a handicap) and she wasn't quite there on the all-weather, but she's really bounced on the turf. She likes the softer ground, she prefers to be swimming more than running. There's definitely more to come and I'd say she's holding a lot more under her belly - Laura Pearson, jockey, speaking on Racing TV."

All three runs last season were in France; suffered a heartbreaking demotion for connections when placed second in the French 1,000 Guineas at Longchamp (1m, good) and failed to stay an extended 1m2f in the Diane at Chantilly last June; not seen again until third in 1m Goodwood Listed event five weeks ago, fading late on as if the run was needed; should be spot on now.

Comment

Led for long way when third in Goodwood Listed on return and should be spot on now

Stable Tour

"She won nicely at Haydock and had working well at home so that wasn't a massive surprise. She could go to the Rockfel and there's also a £100,000 restricted final at Goodwood on September 25 that she's eligible for but I don't want to overrace her. 11-09-24"

Quotes

"Kieran felt they went a good pace and Shes Perfect never quite dropped it. She always looked like she was just in a gear too many. He felt coming into the straight he had plenty in the tank but she emptied very quickly. I think we'll come back to a mile after that. It was always the big question mark and she's got lots of speed. I think very simply she didn't quite get home. I thought getting a lead would help us but she never really switched off and the last furlong and a half looked a very long way - Charlie Fellowes, trainer."

2025-06-15 - Chantilly

"We've been invited into the stewards' room and they are going to explain and let us know the process from here. I thought [the interference] was minimal and a long way out and I was very surprised. In England that would not be overturned but we're not in England and I don''t know the rules over here. I'd need to speak to some people and get some advice on the situation and decide whether it's worth it [appealing the decision] - Charlie Fellowes, trainer of Shes Perfect.I'm gutted for the connections but we've got a wonderful filly. Shes Perfect is really exciting going forward and I'm sorry for the connections that it didn't happen today. We'll get over it and I'm sure we'll see her at Ascot, she's a wonderful filly - Kieren Shoemark, jockey."

2025-05-11 - Longchamp

"Shes Perfect pinged the lids from out wide and Shoey [Kieran Shoemark] had no choice but to slide across and just let her bowl along. She'll come on for this, she's not rock-hard fit and she'll improve, so I'm delighted with that, she's run a cracker - Charlie Fellowes, trainer."

Runner-up in the Group 2 May Hill at Doncaster (1m, good to soft) and the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar (1m, firm) last autumn; below that level when fifth in 1m York Listed race on reappearance but it's possible she simply needed the outing; player if back to her best.

Came up well short in Group 1/Listed events in the second half of 2025 but different story on Kempton AW reappearance, readily seeing off ten rivals in 1m Listed race; winner on good to soft; capable of making her presence felt, with further progress a distinct possibility after only six starts.

Comment

AW Listed winner on reappearance and further progress is possible after only six starts

Quotes

"Pina Sonata has grown up an awful lot from her first race to her second and it's good she's been able to follow up Wolverhampton with another nice win. She's a big, strong filly and she's very classy. We're going to have to aim for black type now, but which race to go for I'm not sure. I wanted to get this out the way before we made any real plans. The way she's been going at home has given me the impression she might stay further. She's out of a Galileo mare [Moonlight Sonata] and I'd say she could get a mile and a quarter, but she'll stay a mile for the moment - James Fanshawe, trainer, speaking to Racing TV."

Group 3 winner at Tipperary (7.5f, yielding) at the end of last summer; matched that form when second in 1m Group 3 at the Curragh (soft/heavy) but needs to bounce back from a lesser effort at the Curragh last time.

Comment

Group 3 winner last year; second at same level this year but latest effort was below par

Stable Tour

"She's got better every year with racing and ran great when second in the Express Stakes behind Celestial Orbit last time after not doing badly in a messy race on her comeback. She could take on Celestial Orbit again in the Lanwades Stud Stakes. 22-04-26"

Quotes

"If any horse deserved to win a stakes race, it is Princess Child, but you don't always get what you deserve. I don't know how many times she has been placed in stakes races without winning one, and we were campaigning her aggressively to win one. She had built a whole load of black type, but you have to win one too. I would say that will be a career best, and when a horse wins a race they get confidence from it. We'll see where next, but she is a Group winner now, which is kind of job done, but we will try and win another one now - Joseph O'Brien, trainer."

2025-08-31 - Tipperary

"Once we straightened up I knew I would pick them up because they were kind of paddling in front. Princess Child is a very consistent filly and hopefully she can progress into stakes company again and get her head in front - Dylan Browne McMonagle, jockey."

Smart hold-up mare who is closely matched with Shes Perfect on latest Goodwood Listed form over 1m on good; 0-6 at Listed/Group level but she's capable of a prominent showing if things fall right.

Comment

Smart hold-up mare who is closely matched with Shes Perfect on latest Goodwood form

Stable Tour

"She's very talented but needs to be ridden with restraint. I thought she was a little bit unlucky on her comeback, but she hasn't stayed in training to win handicaps at Newmarket, so it was a great reappearance. She'll likely go to the Listed Conqueror Stakes at Goodwood next, which she probably should have won last season but for traffic problems. She likes fast ground and, if we can get the big black type secured, then we may well become more ambitious and take a shot at Group 2s or even Group 1s. 21-04-26"

Won a Listed race at York (5f, good) as a 2yo but she's 0-13 since and finished behind Shes Perfect and Arisaig in a Goodwood Listed event last time.

Comment

Listed win at 2 but 0-13 since; held by Shes Perfect and Arisaig on latest Goodwood form

Stable Tour

"She was second, beaten only a nose, by last week's Duke of Cambridge winner Crimson Advocate in a Listed fillies' race at Goodwood and was then third in a Group 2 in France. She ran in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot on Friday and I was expecting her to go very well as a Group horse in a handicap but she was pulled up. I think she must have whacked a joint and I'm really happy that William Buick pulled her up as it's better to be safe than sorry. She appears to be fine but we'll make further checks just in case to make sure there's no problem. I think she's very underrated and I've got her in the Falmouth at the Newmarket July meeting. That may be a step too far, but all being well it'll be Group races over a mile for her. 02-07-25"

Quotes

"I bred Betty Clover her and I'm so wildly excited, I just can't believe it. I thought she had a chance of a place and I thought she had a chance of turning the form round with Running Queen, who got first run on us last time. Georgia gave her the most beautiful ride. I'm very proud of my jockey, she doesn't get many chances and bloody hell she's good. She should be saluted for that. We have to look at Ascot. I don't know which race. It's a very fast five furlongs at York and she travelled all right into it but we'll have a think - Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer."
